![]() ![]() The inhabitants of the cities were used as ingredients in the Stone, while the buildings were pulled underground with alchemy to bury any evidence of the transmutation. In addition to this first Stone, Dante and Hohenheim were responsible for the destruction of at least two ancient cities: one located where the present capital of Amestris, Central, now stands, and a "fabled lost city in the east" (in reality, Hohenheim's home city), each of which is said to have mysteriously disappeared overnight. In the course of performing this transmutation, Hohenheim was nearly killed Dante saved him by instinctively using the newly created stone to attach his soul to the body of another man thus, the pair discovered "eternal" life. The first Philosopher's Stone that Dante and Hohenheim made used those condemned as witches and those dying of the plague as the required human sacrifice. Hohenheim's attempt to transmute him back to life created Envy. They even had a son however, he died of mercury poisoning at a young age. Nearly 400 years ago, she was Hohenheim's lover, and together they lived for centuries using this technique. Dante is actually around 400 years old and is able to escape death by continually transferring her soul to new, younger bodies with the aid of the Philosopher's Stone. Much later in the series, it is revealed that Dante had transferred her soul to the body of her student Lyra, thereby prolonging her life. Soon after her meeting with the Elric brothers, Dante faked her death at the hands of Greed, who is in turn killed by Ed, although it is obvious to the viewer that her body was dead before Greed had arrived. Then the Promised Day came.Dante first appeared as the former alchemy teacher of Izumi Curtis, who in turn taught Edward and Alphonse Elric. He became disgusted with Father's selfish and cruel plans and swore to help Ed and Ling fight back to protect his new family and defy his vicious Father. After a few stern lectures from Ling, Greed began to realize that his desires were truly human: he wanted a loving family, something that Father could never give him. Wrath fought him to a standstill, and Greed fled once again.īeing the same opportunist as ever, Greed loosely sided with Edward and the other protagonists, but only because he wanted a circle of friends to call his own. It was agony to realize that all his beloved minions were gone, and he went straight to Wrath's residence to sort this out. At first, the new Greed obeyed Father's will, but his lost memories returned when he killed one of his earlier allies. Greed was shocked when Ling welcomed him with open arms, and the two of them shared a body. Greed returned when Father recognized Prince Ling as a fine vessel, and Ling eagerly accepted the Philosopher's Stone that he'd been seeking all along. He refused to rejoin his fellows, and ended up melted down and returned to Philosopher's Stone form. Greed fought him head-on, but was subdued and dragged back to Father's lair. When the Central forces stormed the place, led by King Bradley/Wrath. He offered a deal to the Elric brothers, who rejected it. He's not dedicated to evil like Pride and Lust are Greed just wants stuff, and he'll cooperate with anyone and strike any bargain to get his hands on new goodies. Much later, when Edward and Alphonse ended up in the Greed's den, the Devil's Nest, Greed showed his opportunistic nature. Around two hundred years before the Promised Day, Greed struck out on his own, and became the ringleader of a gang of thugs like he always wanted. He wants power and authority, too, which put him at odds with Father. Greed can't stand having a master or a boss he wants to be the boss, since his lust for possessions isn't limited to the physical. From the very start, Greed was the "problem child" among the seven homunculi, even counting the bratty Envy and the lazy Sloth. ![]()
